Deep-dive into observation, measurements, and sculpture skills by copying an existing Plaster Sculpture in earth or plasticene clay.
This project is a good starting place for those with less experience, and great practice for those with more.
Drawing from plaster casts is a well-known way to learn anatomy and study light and shadow. In our class, we will use earth clay to sculpt a replica of a plaster cast from Michaelangelo's David sculpture – an oversized eye, nose, mouth or ear. At the end of the class, we will fire your works so that you have a durable reference piece.
The cost for materials depends on your choice of clay and project. You can pay the instructor for materials at the first class.
Materials:

Learn to sculpt the figure from a figure model, with expert instruction from Lois Rhomberg. We will work in plasticine clay over an 18-inch armature.

Students will be instructed in the basics of figure drawing, starting from the block-in stage all the way to finishing touches. We will be working on paper at 11 x 14 inches; go to "Learn More" for materials list.

Learn to sculpt a life-size portrait bust from a model in oil-based clay with instructor Armando Gutiérrez G. The class will emphasize anatomy and proportion, as well as creating a life-like piece with character.
Armando will lead students in creating a silicone and plaster mold of the student's existing sculpture. The class will take place over two weekends:

Spend 10 weeks creating one or more clay figure studies from a live model in a supportive environment. We suggest that new sculptors take either Figure Sculpture or the Plaster Cast Sculpture Study class first.

Learn about the process of slip casting for ceramics, and create a simple slip-cast mold. No previous experience necessary!

Learn hand-building techniques and create some original work for Studio Pintura's Fall Raku Firing event. No previous experience necessary!
